Pens Claim Boychuk Off Waivers

Welcome to the team!

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a surprising move this morning, claiming forward Zach Boychuk off of waivers from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Boychuk led the Hurricanes’ AHL team, the Charlotte Checkers, in scoring with 32 points in 37 games. He played one NHL game with the Canes this season. He was drafted in 2008, 14th overall.

Fun fact: This move reunites Zach with Brandon Sutter. The two were roomies in Carolina and Boychuk even switched to number 16 after Sutter left because he would miss him that much. All together now: AWWWWWW.

Boychuk won’t play tonight against the New York Rangers, and there’s no idea when he’ll make his debut. But I can’t wait to see him!
